The Series 1, 4.2 pre-cut hole in the firewall to access the lower starter bolt.
I'm curious as to what these two holes are. My Bentley workshop manual's diagrams all show this housing from the other (US Driver's) side, so no clues in there.
Better view of the two 9/16th" bolts. Just looking for absolute confirmation that it is the upper one that attaches the starter motor.
Overall view. The insulation was glued on quite liberally... it was a real PITA to remove. Replacing it should be equally fun!
