I was asked, because I had a convertible, to carry a "dignitary" in my car for our hometown July 4th parade. I gladly volunteered. So I went into town early, got the signs to put on my car, and waited in the lineup for my "dignitary", the Police Chief to arrive. Here I'm waiting in the shade, while a tractor passes by.

Nice hat.
Later I was relocated to my actual, no-shade, lineup spot. Behind me were some fire trucks, including this nice old one.
Flathead, straight six with 2-plugs-per-cylinder. Cool.
The 65E, all lined up. Tonneau cover on to stay cool.
Across from me was another Jag, an XK8...
...set to carry the county Sherriff, how symmetrical!
Almost start time! My family was in front of the post office.
Then I got the news... minutes before the start of the parade...
The Police Chief chose instead to ride in a squad car(!?) He can do that any day. Oh well... I got shuffled off elsewhere. I found a spot behind the Stilly Valley Pioneer Museum Fords.
One of the Parade organizers (in the green shirt) apologized for the mixup, and thanked me for coming.
My son Nick hopped in the car and subbed for the Cop. He had fun.
Got lots of "Nice Car!" compliments, and saw a LOT of the back of a Model A. We threw candy out to kids. Nick was a bit too enthusiastic... we ran out of Candy halfway through!
Running some fishing line to create a guide grid.
Hard to see but it is there...
Nose liberally misted with water, the plate goes on...
All burnished and dried. Next, the lettering. (it looks sort of weird without lettering!)
um... OK...
I've heard of a roof rack, but this is going too far!
