At the moment, you have to make a choice...
Using the GUI, or doing it right.

The Server Admin GUI...

  • Makes administration very easy.

  • Very easy to add virtual hosts.

  • Hides a lot of the inherent complexity of httpd.conf

  • Gives feedback about apache's condition.

  • Looks great!

But… (there is always a big “But…”)

  • Performance suffers (inexplicably) after a modest number of vhost entries.

  • No support for many vhost related options like SERVERALIAS.

  • No way to manage popular apache options such as

  • Basically what you have is the world's most powerful webserver dumbed down to "personal web sharing."
